Sight words are part of First grade expectations. First graders not only need to be able to read them but write them correctly as well. To help give students some motivation to work on them independently both at school and at home, the entire first grade is participating in "Rainbow Words." All 100 sight words have been divided among the 7 colors of the rainbow. We will start by reviewing/learning the "red words" in September, and an assessment will be given at the end of the month. Any missed words will need to be practiced additionally for a retest. Your help and support on this is greatly appreciated. Give your first grader opportunities to practice them each day or week. If you want to practice a specific color list for review or accelerated learning, check the word lists below and see the words for that color. "Gold" words may also be assigned each month to challenge those students in need of enrichment. ABCya is a website that has some fun games with sight words in general and can be found on the Fern Bluff website.(Ask your child!)
